Оглавление | TEST 4 Variant 7 1. Translate the text (Переведите текст): THE MONITOR We interact with computers by entering instructions and data into them. After the information has been processed, we can see the results (i.e. the output) on the visual display unit or the monitor. In this interactive process with the computer, the screen plays an important part. The pictures and the characters we see on the screen are made up of picture elements which are also called pixels. The total number of pixels the display is divided in (both horizontally and vertically) is known as resolution. When the number of pixels is very large, we obtain a high resolution display and therefore a sharp image. If the number of pixels is small, a low resolution is obtained. Thus, pixel density or resolution affects the quality of the image: a larger number of pixels gives a much clearer image. The cathode ray tube of the monitor is very similar to that of a TV set. Inside the tube there is an electron beam which scans the screen and turns on or off the pixels that make up the image. The beam appears in the top left corner, and scans the screen from left to right in a continuous sequence, similar to the movement of our eyes when we read, but much faster. This sequence is repeated 50, 60 or 75 times per second, depending on the system. In a colour monitor, the screen surface is coated with substances called phosphors. Three different phosphor materials are used – one each for red, green and blue. A beam of electrons causes phosphor materials to give coloured light from which the picture is formed. Colour monitors are capable to display many different colours at the same time. Portable computers use a flat liquid-crystal display (LCD) instead of a picture tube. 2. Ask 10 questions on the text (составьте 10 различных вопросов по содержанию текста): General (общий) - 2, Special (специальный) — 3, Alternative (альтернативный) - 3, Disjunctive (разделительный) - 2: 3. Determine the tense form of the verbs and translate the sentences into Russian (определите время глагола-сказуемого и переведите предложения) 1. New construction materials have been used while building this bridge. 2. Why are you using such figures in your report? 3. I was warned about the meeting two weeks ago. 4. Переведите предложения на русский язык, принимая во внимание место предлога при бессоюзном подчинении: 1. The city he lived in was very small. 2. The investigations our scientists carry on are connected with magnetism and electricity. 3. The story everybody laughed at was written by Zoschenko. 5. Translate the sentences into Russian. Mind the difference in the translation of the Objective Infinitive Construction and the Subjective Infinitive Construction (переведите предложения на русский язык, учитывая разницу в переводе инфинитивных конструкций): 1. I didn't know her to sing so well. 2. Our Earth is known to have the shape of a ball. 3. The strong earthquake was reported to happen in the mountains of South America. 4. We consider Andrew to be worth to become the monitor of the group. 6. Translate the sentences into Russian (переведите предложения на русский язык ): 1.
