The object of the research is the Russian-Georgian armed conflict. The subject of the research is the characteristics of the First European War of the 21st Century: Russian-Georgian Armed Conflict and Violation of International Law. The topicality of this research is due to the general orientation of modern historical, legal, philosophical research to identify the features of the Russian-Georgia Armed Conflict and Violation of International Law. The aim of our research is to investigate the causes and consequences of the First European War of the 21st Century: Russian-Georgian Armed Conflict and Violation of International Law. To achieve this goal we need to solve the following objectives: - to reveal the consequences and solutions to international conflict; - to consider the main causes of the armed conflict between Russia and Georgia; - to investigate the issue if Georgia’s use of force in South Ossetia is justified from the point of view of international law. Methods of research are determined by its aim and objectives. The research is carried out with the application of various general theoretical and special scientific methods of cognition and approaches to the study of the theory and practice of International humanitarian law, which include: historical-theoretical, comparative-legal, systemic, structural-functional, formally legal, applied interdisciplinary methods. The theoretical value of the research is that the obtained theoretical results can be used in the study of the essence and functions of modern International humanitarian law, the improvement of scientific methodology, the specification of the terminological basis in this field. The practical value of the results obtained is that the materials of the research can be used in teaching lecture courses and special courses: “International humanitarian law”, “History of international law”, “International protection of human rights”, during seminars for students, postgraduate students, young teachers .
